Pursuing Fun on Behalf of the Elderly is No Trivial Matter for The Perfect Home Care

The golden years should be fun. That’s one reason why The Perfect Home Care regularly provides free entertainment for the elderly by hosting games of Trivial Pursuit at senior facilities all over Westchester County, NY.

The most recent example was a spirited contest held in the theater at the Atria Senior Living facility in Briarcliff Manor, NY.  Some 40 residents joined in the game, which featured a holiday theme.

For the unfamiliar, Trivial Pursuit is a popular board game in which players are required to answer a series of questions in categories such as history, literature and sports.

The Perfect Home Care adapts the game for a large crowd by placing the questions into a laptop computer program and then projecting the questions onto a movie screen in the front of the room.

Phil Waga and Ed Trapasso, co-owners of The Perfect Home Care, take turns asking the questions. They do not use questions from the board game. Instead, they develop the questions themselves.

The game at Atria featured 100 questions, about half of which had a holiday theme.  One question asked: “What is the first name of Scrooge, one of the main characters in the novel, A Christmas Carol?” Answer: “Ebenezer.” Another question asked: “What fictional character once stole Christmas?” Answer: “The Grinch.”

The only rule was that the contestants raise their hands if they knew the answer.  There was no winner. Instead, all of the participants were given chocolate candy.

“It was challenging, and a lot of fun,” said Lee Barash, a 90-year-old resident of Atria in Briarcliff. “I wish the game lasted longer.”

Added contestant Helen Galante, 85: “Everyone who participated was very engaged. We all had a good time.”
