Debra Haigler’s Tender Care Earns Her “Employee of the Month”
Senior Care in Yonkers NY
One client describes her as “fantastic.” Another calls her “extraordinary.” A third client characterizes her as “the best.” Those are just some of the superlatives that are showered on Debra Haigler, an aide for The Perfect Home Care.
“She’s one of the best aides we employ,” says Phil Waga, co-president of The Perfect Home Care. “Her performance is multi-faceted, characterized by qualities such as dependability, reliability and dedication. But most noteworthy is her compassion. She treats all of her clients with an abundance of tender, loving, care.”
In recognition of her excellent work, The Perfect Home Care management team recently named Ms. Haigler employee of the month. The agency provides home health aides in Westchester County, NY, including the cities of New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers.
“I love taking care of seniors,” says Ms. Haigler. “It provides me with great satisfaction. I feel like it’s something I was born to do.”
Ms. Haigler says her nurturing skills stem from her childhood in South Carolina. She was the youngest of nine children (five girls and four boys). Of course, with such a large brood, her household was hectic. “I learned patience, tolerance and compassion from my parents, especially my mother,” she says. “My mom was an exceptionally caring woman. She had nine kids, and she treated all of us with love and kindness.”
In addition to work as an aide, Ms. Haigler is employed part time at the Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh, NY. There, not surprisingly, she works closely with seniors, escorting them on trips, among other responsibilities.
Ms. Haigler, a mother of three sons, has worked as an aide for 15 years, while she has held her part time job at the community center for four years. When not working, she enjoys cooking, especially dishes for programs at Christ Temple, the church at which she is an active parishioner.
Her best dishes include macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and smothered pork chops. “I’ve cooked for as many as 200 people,” she says. “I derive a lot of satisfaction from cooking. It’s a way of expressing love.”
It seems that expressing love is something that comes easily to Debra Haigler.
