Welcome to America: One of Our Aides Becomes a U.S. Citizen
Senior Care in Yonkers NY
In an ornate courtroom in lower Manhattan, Rosemarie Pierce, a caregiver for The Perfect Home Care, was sworn in as a citizen of the United States.
“I’m so delighted that I’m now an American citizen,” Rosemarie said. “I’ve been waiting for this for so long, and I can’t stop smiling now that it’s finally happened.”
Rosemarie, a native of Jamaica and a legal resident of the United States since she arrived here in 1988, came to the big ceremony with her daughter and a half dozen close friends. Joining Rosemarie for the hour-long ceremony were 200 other impending citizens from 46 countries.
They all stood, raising their right hands, as U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Woods led them through a moving ceremony in the federal courthouse.
“I’m so happy to see you all here as you become citizens of the United States of America,” Woods said. “By being here today, you have proven that you possess the character on which this nation was built.”
Woods then led the gathering through the oath to become U.S. citizens, followed by the group singing the National Anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
“Welcome citizens!” the judge then exclaimed to resounding applause from the new citizens.
Rosemarie’s next step: obtaining a U.S. passport. She does not have any specific plans for travel at this point. “I’m a U.S. citizen, and I just want to have a U.S. passport,” she said.
